Habits That Kill Your Sperm: Do You Have Any of These?

Recently, a friend of mine mentioned that despite not masturbating often, having a normal sex life, and maintaining good sexual function, his sperm vitality was still poor. In life, there is always a cause for every effect. If a healthy man has poor sperm quality, it indicates there's a problem.

Habits Kill Your Sperm

So, today, let's discuss several habits that can kill your sperm.

1. Frequent Saunas and Hot Baths: This behavior significantly harms sperm. Sperm thrive in lower temperatures; a man's testicles are naturally about one degree cooler than the rest of the body, which is optimal for sperm activity. However, soaking in hot baths with temperatures over 40 degrees Celsius can kill even the healthiest sperm. Even if your sexual function is great, it's still a problem.

While your body might feel comfortable soaking in a hot bath, your testicles are suffering, and your sperm won't be healthy. Therefore, it's important to keep bath temperatures below 38 degrees Celsius, especially when treating conditions like prostatitis, to avoid risking infertility.

2. Eating Too Much Seafood: Shrimp, oysters, and sea cucumbers are rich in zinc, a crucial element for sperm energy. But why shouldn't you overconsume seafood? In the past, eating seafood wasn't an issue, but today, ocean pollution is severe, and seafood now contains many harmful substances that can negatively affect sperm. If you want to eat seafood, it's safer to choose farm-raised options.

3. Prolonged Sitting: Sitting for long periods harms both the spleen and kidneys and can negatively impact the male reproductive system. Prolonged sitting raises the temperature of the scrotum, which can impair sperm production and quality. Increased scrotal temperature disrupts the sperm generation process, reducing sperm count and vitality. Over time, this may lead to infertility. Additionally, prolonged sitting increases the risk of prostate issues, further affecting sperm quality.

4. Excessive Consumption of Soy Products: Soy products contain high levels of fat, and excessive intake can mimic the effects of female hormones, leading to infertility. According to several U.S. media reports, a recent study by Harvard School of Public Health confirmed that daily consumption of soy products significantly reduces sperm count. Soy products have an adverse impact on the male reproductive system, particularly on sperm production.

5. Drinking Coffee Regularly: Many professionals use coffee to stay awake due to work pressure or fatigue. However, frequent coffee consumption can harm male reproductive function, leading to oligospermia (low sperm count). Coffee contains high levels of caffeine, which can kill sperm to some extent. Moreover, damaged sperm that fertilize an egg can result in fetal deformities or incomplete fetal development. Coffee also reduces sperm motility, making them less active.

6. Using a Mobile Phone for Long Periods: Studies have found that men who frequently keep their phones in their pockets or hang them on their waist may experience up to a 30% reduction in sperm count. Those who use their phones for more than 4 hours a day have the lowest sperm counts, with only 5 million sperm per milliliter of semen—just one-third of the normal standard. Furthermore, the quality of the sperm is poor, with some men having fewer than 2 million sperm per milliliter.

7. Heavy Smoking and Drinking: The main components of cigarettes, nicotine and tar, have been clearly identified as harmful to sperm. They can inhibit sperm production and cause infertility, affecting blood vessels in the penis and leading to insufficient blood supply. Smoking also affects blood flow to the penis, testicles, and epididymis, impairing testicular nerve function and sperm maturation.

Alcohol directly damages sperm and can also trigger inflammation in accessory glands, altering the composition of semen and reducing sperm quality. Therefore, it's crucial to reconsider smoking and drinking habits, especially during the pre-conception period. Quitting smoking and alcohol is strongly advised.
