Chronic Bacterial Prostatitis Cause and Treatment

Chronic bacterial prostatitis is a relatively rare condition that originates from a chronic infection in the prostate. The prostate become infected because the bacteria get into the prostate from urethra by backward flow of infected urine or stool from the rectum. Many different types of bacteria make contribution to this disease, but the most common ones are E. coli (the main bacteria species found to cause bacterial prostatitis), Klebsiella pneumonia, Enterobacter, Enterococcus spp, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Proteus mirabilis. All of these bacteria are known as gram-negative bacteria, and they account for about 80% of acute and chronic bacterial prostatitis infections.

But How can the Bacteria Make It? Here are Some Risk Factors for Inducing Bacteria to the Prostate Area.

1.  Bacteria such as escherichia coli from undercooked meat or contaminated food can get into digestive tract, then creep up into the bladder from the rectum, and finally get in  the urine and make their way into the prostate.

2. A small number of cases are passed on through sex. Bacteria like chlamydia can get into urethra and make its way to the bladder and prostate by engaging in rectal intercourse without condom or having unprotected sex with someone who has a bacterial infection.

What's the Treatment for this Disease?
Though the efficacy of antibiotics on prostatitis is still in question, they remain the first line of treatment in bacterial prostatitis. In chronic bacterial prostatitis, treatment require antibiotics with capacity to diffuse into prostate tissue. The fluoroquinolones, tetracyclines and macrolides have the best penetration and are often used in therapy for 4-8 weeks. Sometimes men are given supressive low-dose, long duration antibiotics therapy.

However, occasionally CBP does not respond to antibiotic therapy and becomes a relapsing illness due to drug resistance and side effects of antibiotics. In this case, patients can take other alternative therapies such as Chinese herbs into consideration. Diuretic and Anti-inflammatory Pill developed by experienced herbalist Lee Xiaoping proves effective for this condition. It cures the disease by killing bacteria to eliminate inflammation and improving Qi-blood circulation to enhance immunity to prevent from recurrence of chronic prostatitis.
