Chinese Herbal Medicine is not to Kill Coronavirus, but to Help Patients Heal

On March 13, Zhang Boli, an expert of the central steering group, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of Tianjin University of traditional Chinese medicine, introduced in an interview that Chinese medical experts brought Jinhua Qinggan granules and Lianhua Qingwen granules to support Iraq and Italy respectively. These two drugs have been tested in China, and their efficacy is accurate.
It is understood that Jinhua Qinggan granules were developed during the influenza A (H1N1) pandemic in 2009. It is composed of 12 kinds of drugs, such as honeysuckle, ephedra, bitter almond, Scutellaria, and forsythia. It mainly comes from two ancient prescriptions, and one is the Maxingshigan Decoction in Zhang Zhongjing's Treatise on Febrile Diseases; the other is Yinqiao san from the Differentiation and Treatment of Epidemic Febrile Disease in Qing Dynasty.
"Jinhua Qinggan granules are effective in treating mild cases and normal types of coronavirus," Zhang Boli said, "We found that the time of fever, inflammation and weight loss were all reduced after receiving treatment."
Zhang Boli introduced that the State Key Laboratory of respiratory diseases of Guangzhou Medical University confirmed that Lianhua Qingwen granules had a good inhibitory effect on the cytopathy caused by the Coronavirus, which could reduce the particles of metabolic waste in the cells, significantly inhibit the rise of tumor necrosis factor, inhibit the inflammatory storm, so as to control the development of the disease.
He also explained that Chinese herbal medicine is not to kill the virus, but to adjust the state of the human body so that the virus has no living environment in the human body. For example, if a virus likes a humid human environment, Chinese herbal medicine will adjust the human body to a dry and warm environment, which makes it difficult for the virus to survive. In the absence of an effective cure, it does not mean there is no effective treatment plan.
Zhang Boli further explained that the method of treating diseases by traditional Chinese medicine is like clearing away the garbage that causes diseases. When the garbage is gone, and the virus loses its place of existence, it will naturally disappear, and the body will be healthy.
In addition to the Jinhua Qinggan granules and Lianhua Qingwen granules, three experts also introduced another kind of Chinese medicine - Xuebijing injection, which is effective in treating Coronavirus.

The indications for Xuebijing injection, they say, are clear in the treatment of inflammatory response syndrome caused by infection. Its effect is mainly reflected in several aspects:
First, it can inhibit the inflammatory reaction and block the cytokine storm;
Second, it can prevent excessive coagulation in the body and prevent the formation of micro thrombosis;
Third, the clinical safety research after marketing shows that the adverse reaction rate is about 0.3%, which is generally safe;
Fourth, there is no interaction with commonly used antibiotics, and there is no interaction.
Although Xuebijing injection is a Chinese herbal medicine injection, it also follows the process of Western medicine. Its evaluation system is the same as western medicine, and its effective ingredients are also clear. At the same time, they also said that the current research is still flawed. The coronavirus epidemic is a very large public health event. At present, drugs are only applied to patients with a severe inflammatory reaction. The results of the final cohort study need further analysis.
