What are the Impacts of Epididymitis on Sexual Health? -Including Premature Ejaculation and Other Impacts

Epididymitis is a common disease among young adults. When the body's resistance declines, pathogenic bacteria, such as E. coli, staphylococcus, and streptococcus, enter the vas deferens and invade the epididymis retrogradely, causing inflammation. Therefore, this disease is mostly followed by posterior urethritis, prostatitis, and seminal vesiculitis.

Generally, patients with epididymitis will have induration, which mainly occurs at the head or tail of the epididymis, with the majority occurring at the tail.

What are the impacts of epididymitis on sexual health?

Firstly, epididymitis can cause premature ejaculation in men. Epididymitis will affect the spinal cord center and lower the excitement point of the central nerve, thus easily causing impotence or premature ejaculation in men.

Also, experts suggest that if epididymitis is not treated for a long time, it will lead to the hardening of the epididymis areas and the occurrence of painful ejaculation when ejaculating during sex due to the contraction of the vas deferens, making patients finish ejaculation quickly, and leading to premature ejaculation.

Secondly, epididymitis causes discomforts, such as pain and swelling, in the genitals and surrounding areas, which affects men's daily activities and impacts men's sex life. And the pain caused by epididymitis can cause anxiety, tension, and pain in the waist, abdominal areas, and groin areas in some patients, changing the patient's mood and resulting in poor quality of rest and worries about sexual functions, which can cause psychological erectile dysfunction.

Thirdly, epididymitis will cause frequent spermatorrhea. It often causes congestion in the genital area, which causes pathological excitement in the ejaculatory center of the spinal cord, resulting in frequent spermatorrhea. Left untreated, men may have problems, such as depression, anxiety, and nervousness among the patients, affecting their fertility and sexual life.

Fourthly, if epididymitis is caused by germs, untimely treatment will also lead to other diseases, such as varicocele, corditis, prostatitis, endocrine disorders, etc., seriously endangering the health of men, and transmitting related diseases transmitted to sexual partners, which is detrimental to sexual health.

Besides, epididymitis will affect sexual life, causing male infertility. If inflammation occurs in the epididymis, it will affect the living environment of sperm and reduce the vitality of sperm, which may lead to dead sperm, azoospermia, infertility, and transmission of inflammatory germs to the mate, causing gynecological diseases and bringing great harm to the mate.

The contents above show that epididymitis can have an impact on sexual health. Then, how can patients treat epididymitis?

For treating acute epididymitis, intravenous antibiotics are generally recommended to control its inflammation in the short term, thus reducing pain and inhibiting the enlargement of the epididymis and the testicles. When it is actively controlled, patients can take antibiotics orally.

Although epididymitis has an acute and rapid onset with apparent symptoms, it takes longer to eliminate, and it usually takes at least one month to treat epididymitis before the inflammation of the epididymis or the nodules of the epididymis is eliminated gradually.

In some cases of epididymitis, the inflammation can be controlled, but the nodules of the epididymis cannot be eliminated. If epididymitis recurs, some people may show chronic epididymitis, which refers to the pain in the epididymis and sometimes white blood cells in the urine. In some cases, no abnormality may be shown in the results of routine urine exams. Chronic epididymitis can be treated as acute epididymitis if it attacks acutely.

Patients with chronic epididymitis can choose herbal medicine Diuretic and Anti-inflammatory Pill to eliminate symptoms and causes to achieve a cure. If drugs are ineffective, men that have already had children can also consider epididymoidectomy to remove the parts of the epididymis that is prone to epididymitis to reduce the recurrence of epididymitis.
