Can Motherwort Assist in Pregnancy for Patients With Blocked Fallopian Tubes?

Fallopian tube blockage is one of the common factors causing female infertility. The fallopian tubes are a pair of slender and curved tubes in the female pelvic cavity, which collect eggs, provide a fertilization site, nourish the zygote, and transport the zygote to the uterine cavity.

It includes the interstitial part, isthmus, ampulla, and umbrella end. The blockage of fallopian tubes caused by various reasons can affect the combination of sperm and eggs or the transport of the zygote, resulting in infertility. 30-50% of female infertility are related to blocked fallopian tubes.

Motherwort is a name for herbal medicine, which can also be called Jiuchonglou, Mica Grass, etc. It is a plant of the genus Motherwort in the Labiatae family. It can be used as a raw material and medicinal ointment. It is cold and bitter in property, but it has no toxicity.

Although Motherwort cannot directly cure blocked fallopian tubes, it can be an assisted drug in treating blocked fallopian tubes. The details are as follows:

1. Motherwort has the effect of promoting blood circulation and resolving blood stasis.

The most apparent function of Motherwort is that it can be used in medicine for treating diseases, with sound effects of promoting blood circulation, removing blood stasis, regulating menstruation, and reducing swelling. Motherwort can alleviate abdominal pain caused by blocked fallopian tubes to some extent and can handle menstrual irregularities caused by blocked fallopian tubes.

2. Motherwort has anti-inflammatory and bactericidal effects.

Motherwort can reduce inflammation and kill bacteria and may eliminate inflammation in the fallopian tubes, thus alleviating pain caused by inflammation.

3. Motherwort can also promote metabolism and enhance human immunity, and female patients can use Motherwort to condition and treat blocked fallopian tubes.

Motherwort can only serve as an additional treatment for blocked fallopian tubes, and it is not advisable to rely solely on Motherwort for treating blocked fallopian tubes. It is recommended to take it under the guidance of a TCM doctor based on syndrome differentiation to avoid blind use and aggravating the condition.

The treatment of blocked fallopian tubes includes tubal patency and surgeries for fallopian tubes. Mild tubal adhesions and blocked fallopian tubes can be effectively treated through tubal patency and can be assisted by TCM enema treatment.

In addition, as a complete formula, the herbal medicine Fuyan Pill has the effects of clearing heat and detoxifying, promoting blood circulation and resolving stasis, strengthening the spleen, and promoting dampness. It can eliminate gynecological tissue lesions, regulate menstruation, eliminate pain, and treat blocked fallopian tubes.

Severe blocked fallopian tubes, especially chronic pelvic inflammatory disease, can cause adhesions around the fallopian tubes. Suppose adhesions around the fallopian tubes are seen during surgery. In that case, the entire fallopian tubes may be wrapped or twisted at the umbrella end, leading to changes in the shape of the fallopian tubes. Surgical treatment is recommended as the primary treatment for patients.

The surgical methods include laparotomy, laparoscopy, hysteroscopic, or a combination of hysteroscopic and laparoscopic surgery, with a clinical cure rate of less than 20% for severely blocked fallopian tubes. If the effectiveness of such surgical treatment is poor, women with fertility plans may actively try to conceive three months after surgery, and assisted reproductive in vitro fertilization is recommended for patients who have not yet become pregnant.
