Is Gonorrhea Fatal? Will It Kill You?
Gonorrhea is one of the top STDs in the United States, which is caused by gonococcus. Relatively speaking, women are more susceptible to Gonorrhea than men. With the wide application of antibiotics, the mortality of Gonorrhea has become lower and lower.
In the early stage, patients can be cured clinically after a thorough treatment. But if the treatment is not timely, 1% - 3% of gonorrhea patients will have gonococcus spread to the whole body. Gonococcus will spread to the whole body through blood vessels and lymphatics, which may lead to septicemia, endocarditis, or meningitis, leading to deaths.
Then can Gonorrhea be cured? Gonorrhea does not have heredity, immunity, and can be repeatedly infected. There will be repeated attacks if the treatment is not thorough and turn into a chronic type. However, timely diagnosis and anti-infective treatment can be completely cured.
Because diplococcus gonorrhea is sensitive to antibiotics, as long as antibiotics with sufficient quantity used in a reasonable way, and there is no complication, the curative effect is fast, and the cure rate is high. In 2006, the STD control center of China Center for Disease Control and Prevention issued the guideline for clinical diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases.
A single high dose administration is recommended for acute Gonorrhea without complications. Patients can be treated by using highly effective antibiotics, such as ceftriaxone sodium and spectinomycin. Gonorrhea complicated with Chlamydia trachomatis infection is common, so it should be considered to use effective antibiotics, such as azithromycin, applicable drugs can treat the disease, and will not endanger your life.
The doctor will determine the specific drug, dose, and treatment course according to the patient's individual situation, condition, and laboratory examination results. At present, the commonly used drugs are as follows:
1. Ceftriaxone
Ceftriaxone belongs to the third generation cephalosporins, which can inhibit and kill Gonorrhea. Therefore, it can be used for the prevention and treatment of Gonorrhea and preoperative infection. The general treatment period is about 3-7 days.
2. Tetracyclines
Tetracycline antibiotics mainly include doxycycline and minocycline. Most of them belong to broad-spectrum bacteriostatic agents, which have a bactericidal effect at high concentrations. It has a certain antibacterial activity to Neisseria gonorrhoeae and can inhibit and kill it. The treatment period is about one week.
However, with the abuse of antibiotics, the resistance of Neisseria gonorrhoeae to many kinds of antibiotics is increasing, including penicillins, tetracyclines, macrolides, and fluoroquinolones. Therefore, if Gonorrhea relapses after treatment, we must do a non-gonococcal examination.
Sometimes Gonorrhea can be combined with Chlamydia, or mycoplasma infection. When Gonorrhea is serious, the symptoms of the non-gonococcal disease will be covered. Once the treatment is effective, non-Gonorrhea will appear. At this time, patients can be treated by taking herbal medicine Diuretic and Anti-inflammatory Pill, which has a strong ability of sterilization and anti-inflammation.
While treating Gonorrhea, it can also make Chlamydia and Mycoplasma turn negative at the same time, and the efficacy can reach the focus directly, and will not produce any side effects and drug resistance.
There are three main cure standards for Gonorrhea:
1) all symptoms and signs disappeared.
2) routine examination of morning urine is negative
3) 3-7 days after the end of treatment, the samples from the affected area were negative for smear staining and culture.
After suffering from Gonorrhea, the diet should be light, and you should drink more water, avoid spicy food and alcohol. There are often some patients whose condition is aggravated or relapsed due to the wrong diet.
