Can White Willow Bark Extract Treat Orchitis?

White willow bark extract is a kind of bark extract taking Salicin as a standard, which has been used as anti-inflammation, antipyretic, and analgesic for thousands of years. Although it has been used for a long time in human history, there are few related animal and human studies. A total of five human clinical studies and several animal studies have been carried out.

In general, the results of these studies support the analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities of the extract from white willow bark. In recent years, a variety of in vitro and animal studies have shown that the anti-inflammatory activity of white willow bark extract is related to the downregulation of inflammatory mediators TNF α and NF B.

Although Salicin is usually used as a standard as the extract of white willow bark, other components of the extract, including other salicylates, polyphenols and flavonoids, can also play a significant role in the treatment. Compared with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, including aspirin that is usually used to relieve the pain symptoms of bacterial orchitis, the adverse effects of white willow bark extract are less.

In addition, the dosage of Salicin in the extract of Salix bark is 120-240mg, and its commonly used clinical dosage is lower than that of aspirin, which is 500mg. This difference may be due to the presence of polyphenols and flavonoids in the extract, which plays a beneficial role. The antioxidant and free radical scavenging properties of polyphenols and flavonoids in the extract of white willow bark are well known.

In recent years, a series of in vitro studies have evaluated the mechanism of action of white willow bark extracts and fractions. Modern medical research has proved that inflammation, pain, swelling, and other external reactions, aging of tissues and organs, are all related to excess free radicals.

Plant polyphenols have excellent antioxidant capacity, which can effectively eliminate the excess free radicals in the human body. Daily supplements of plant polyphenols can effectively eliminate redundant free radicals. Plant polyphenols have an obvious inhibitory effect on many kinds of bacteria, fungi, and yeast, especially on common pathogenic bacteria such as cholera, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, and do not affect the growth and development of the organism itself.

As for safety, although the side effects caused by the extract of white willow bark are rare, it also has allergic reactions. Patients with a known history of allergic reactions to salicylic acid should avoid using it. To sum up, the number of human and animal studies on its safety and effectiveness is limited. Although the extract of Salix bark has been used for thousands of years, its effectiveness and safety still need to be studied.

In order to prevent the side effects of antibiotics, such as drug resistance, drug dependence and so on, we can also choose traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) to treat them. Herbal medicine Diuretic and Anti-inflammatory Pill is developed by Dr. Lee based on TCM theory and her more than 30 years of clinical experience.

This pill is made up of more than 50 varieties of herbal ingredients such as Plantain, Dianthus Superbus, Polygonum aviculare, angelica, red peony, peach kernel, safflower, Houttuynia cordata. It not only has the effect of discharging excessive body fluid, promoting blood and Qi circulation, relieving pain but also has the effect of anti-proliferation, anti calcification, anti-fibrosis and eliminating swelling, which can effectively treat orchitis.
