CUA Guide: On the Diagnosis of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a common disease in middle-aged men, often manifested in varying degrees of male lower urinary tract symptoms (MLUTS). Recently, the Canadian Society of Urology (CUA) updated its 2018 version of the MLUTS/BPH guidelines to guide urologists to provide the most appropriate treatment for different MLUTS/BPH patients.

Diagnostic guide

Required item

(1) Detailed medical history, including history of treatment, history of surgery, history of trauma, etc.

(2) Physical examination, including digital rectal examination (DRE).

(3) Urine routine.

Treatment guide

Principle of treatment

The treatment plan should be based on the severity of the symptoms, the degree of distress and the patient's preference in the MLUTS/BPH patients, inform the patient about the risks and benefits associated with the treatment, and involve the patient in the development of the treatment plan.

For patients with mild symptoms (such as IPSS < 7), it is recommended to change lifestyle and wait for observation. If the symptoms are mild and the patient is seriously afflicted, further examination is required.

Lifestyle changes include:

(1) Control fluid intake, especially before going to bed.

(2) Avoid eating caffeinated beverages, alcohol and spicy foods.

(3) Avoid using certain drugs (such as congestion relievers, antihistamines, antidepressants, etc.).

(4) Bladder retraining.

(5) pelvic floor muscle training.

(6) keep regular defecation.

TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) believes that kidney Yang deficiency, Yin and Yang disorders, Yang deficiency, cold coagulation, poor blood flow, blood stasis, leading to prostate hyperplasia.

Therefore, TCM advocates that kidney Yang is the crux, blood stasis is the appearance, and both the symptoms and the root causes. Diuretic and Anti-inflammatory Pill has outstanding effects in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia, especially in the early stages.

Diuretic and Anti-inflammatory Pill can effectively regulate the function of human urogenital system, plus blood circulating, lump softening and dispersing, heat clearing and detoxifying ingredients, it can dispel prostate congestion and edema, and make hyperplasia softens and shrinks, restoring its normal physiological function.

At early stage, it usually takes 1-2 courses to heal, and the treatment has almost no recurrence rate.
